T.I. and Tiny Harris approve of their daughter carrying a gun.
Insiders tell TMZ that Zonnique Pullins was joined by her mother Tiny when she purchased the .38 semiautomatic gun she was carrying when she was arrested at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Thursday.
The OMG singer was caught attempting to bring the pistol through security in her carry-on luggage.
The decision to arm Zonnique was made after she began receiving threats on social media and after a crazed fan grabbed her at a recent event, the website reports.
While the 20-year-old singer’s weapon is legally registered, it’s illegal to carry a gun in carry-on luggage. Zonnique was charged with carrying a concealed weapon in an unauthorized area and was released Friday morning.
Her cousin Tamara Whitaker took to social media to say it was all a mistake.
“Zonnique did get caught with her registered weapon but like most of us she just forgot it was in her really big purse,” says Whitaker. “We were taught in my family that people are crazy out here and carrying a small gun to protect yourself is what’s needed.”
Zonnique’s stepfather T.I. has a long history with illegal firearms.
The rapper was arrested in 2007 on federal gun charges after he gave his bodyguard $12,000 to buy unregistered machine guns and gun silencers, reports Reuters. T.I., whose real name is Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., was sentenced to one year and a day in prison.
Most recently, a New York City concert where the rapper was scheduled to perform was the scene of a shooting that resulted in one death and three injuries.
