Nicolas Cage and his wife, Alice Kim, have been separated since January, a rep for the National Treasure star, 52, confirms to Us Weekly.
The couple — who have been married for nearly 12 years — share a 10-year-old son, Kal-el.
As previously reported, sparks first flew between the Hollywood vet and Kim, 32, when Cage met his now-estranged spouse working as a waitress at a Los Angeles restaurant. After a whirlwind two months of dating, the pair got engaged. They tied the knot in a romantic Northern California wedding ceremony on July 30, 2004.
While Cage has rarely opened up about his personal life, he spoke about settling down with his Korean-born wife in a rare 2013 interview with The Guardian.
“I made a very clear decision to marry out of my own zip code,” he told the U.K. outlet. “I mean, way out of my own zip code. I married into another culture, and it’s interesting because in Korea they call me the Son-in-Law.”
This will be the third divorce for the Oscar-winning actor. Prior to Kim, Cage was married to Lisa Marie Presley, with whom he split in 2004 after two years of marriage. Before shacking up with Elvis’ daughter, now 48, the Oscar winner was wed to Patricia Arquette from 1995 until 2001. He is also dad to Weston, 25, from a previous relationship with former model-actress Christina Fulton.
