Ugandan movie lovers thronged Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday evening for the premiere of one of the highly anticipated Ugandan films this year titled “The Only Son”, with revelers trickling as early as 5pm for the red-carpet event.

Revelers warmed up to performances from self-taught pianist David Pragmo and afro-soul singer Kenneth Mugabi, who also voiced the official soundtrack of the movie, as they settled into Victoria hall. The music performances were followed by the screening of a documentary by EDYAC, a non-profit organization based in Tororo, to which proceeds from the movie premiere will go to. The documentary highlighted the NGO’s contribution to the community through looking after orphans and disabled children.

At around 8:30pm, the auditorium, which was now filled up, was cast into partial darkness and the audience’s full attention drawn to the screen for the first time viewing of “The Only Son” movie.

Written and directed by Richard Mulindwa, the drama film tells a story of a lone child (Davis) born in a rich family that is forced to shape his own destiny after his tycoon father conceives a deliberate plot to hoodwink his son into believing they had lost everything and then sends him to the village to live with his uncle in order to teach him about the hardships of life. However, he can’t cope with life in the village and decides to move back to town to try and make it on his own but ends up on the streets as all his former friends forsake him.

Fast-rising actor Bobby Tamale drew surges of emotion from the audience with his spectacular performance as Davis aka the only son as he tried to cope with the new changes in his life following his father’s deceptive big fall from grace.

The movie also features a rich cast of renowned local film actors who include veteran actor Michael Wawuyo Snr, celebrated Ebonies’ star Raymond Rushabiro, 2015 best actress Nisha Kalema and new actress on the block Doreen Nabbanja.

Speaking after the movie screening, an emotion-laden Bobby Tamale thanked the audience for turning up in big numbers to support the movie project.
