TV personality Sheilah Gashumba has called out local artistes to support each other. She made the call while rallying support for Ugandan musicians who are nominated in this year’s MTV MAMAs. She posted:
“Some Ugandans are very good at talking about how bad some of our artists make videos, sing , dress etc but cant spread good news about some artists or the music industry!!
A successful story has never been about just one person. Its about people working together as a team. It still baffles me that at this time of the year where we have 3 artists nominated in the biggest music awards in Africa (MTV AWARDS), we dont see some fellow artists encouraging their fanbase to vote for the Ugandans nominated and they still complain about the industry as well. How can we support you as an artist when you cant even support your fellow artists that are nominated. When Ugandans are nominated, the country shines thus giving more exposure to the country’s music industry and when a Ugandan artist wins, Uganda wins.
I think its high time Ugandans learn to vote and support each other. Awards are not won by listening to an artist’s song or watching a music video. Awards are won by voting. There is no way our artists will win awards if we dont support each other and vote for them.”
