Keya Nemesis

Here is what you did not know about Rapper Nemesis as narrated by the rapper himself.

My real name is Keya Nicholas Anthony.  I started rapping at the age of ten to impress a girl in my English class.

The first song I learnt how to rap along to was Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady”. I got hooked on it. And started to compete with my colleagues at school.

I realised that I had a knack for witty lines and decided to start writing my own lyrics by the time I was 11. When I joined secondary school, I was 12 and got initiated in a rap group that called themselves the death icon’s.

I had my first stage performance with them and got booed for the first and last time in my career. At the time I was obsessed with reading Dracula comic’s and dubbed myself “Lil drac”. I taught myself how to freestyle after my shaming on stage and in the second term of my Form 1 went head to head with the best rappers at my school. I emerged the best from the age of 12 upto when I left the school at the age of 17 after my Form 6.

I got my monicker NEMESIS after I defeated a rapper at MUK campus called Nemesis Fixx when I was 16. I then went on to win a couple of competitions:

1. De bwazz
2. Buzz (2012)
3. High school talent search
4. Sabrina battle challenge (where I stood undefeated against all rappers regardless of age or language used in rapping).

Sabrina battle challenge is where I met GNL Zamba who approached me with the offer to join Baboon Forest. And lyrical G who advised me to compete in the “Nokia Dont Break The Beat” freestyle challenge.

I won the “Nokia Dont Break The Beat” competition beating about 300 contestants that had auditioned and flew to Kenya to represent Uganda for a final showdown against Tanzania’s best and Kenya’s best. I emerged 2nd behind a Kenyan victor who in my opinion was cheated for.

I joined South Cyde studios with Imon Pro and made a couple of records before joining Baboon fFrest under GNL Zamba.

In March 2014, I battled Ruyonga and the audience applauded me to retain my crown as the undisputed, undefeated battle rap champion in Uganda.

I met up with Nase at Portbell drive and recorded a lot of time transcending songs. This is where I met with GMG CEO and got signed to the label.

I am ecstatic about my future with GMG and I thank everyone that has had a hand in my career, notably, GNL Zamba, Lyrical G, Capital Ken, Imon Pro, Nase Avatar, Cynthia Kimula and so many others I can’t name.

I also thank the girl who at the age of 10 made me want to rap to impress her. She knows who she is.
