The singer will kickstart work after putting pen to paper and currently, she is pushing her latest song titled Kikondolo. The song that features young talented singer Sama Soja was released last week and it is a project that is so far making the two artistes busy.

While on an interview at the unveiling, the singer was asked why she is still signing with record labels yet she is supposed to be retiring from music. In response to that, Namubiru said that music is not like football where players retire because they are old enough but rather it is for singing until you lose a voice instead which is on few occasions when people lose voices.

Fik Fameica signs deal with UBLBy Our Reporter

Ever since his debut song ‘Pistol’ almost six years ago, Fik Fameica has grown from strength to strength, winning multiple honors in the process including ‘Artist of the Year’ and ‘Rapper of the Year’ awards in 2018.

It is the same year that he also received is first international nomination alongside Khaligraph Jones and Sarkodie at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in the category of ‘Best Male Artist Non-Nigerian/Africa’.

Fast forward, with the awards have come hit song after another with fans now dancing to ‘Buligita’ and ‘Ready’.

And as we wait for the first single off his latest album, the 28-year-old musician can comfortably say he might not be looking for handouts anytime soon in these hard Covid-19 times following a multi-million shillings deal with Uganda’s Premium Adult Beverage Company, Uganda Breweries Ltd as well as Swangz Avenue.

And he took to social media recently to share the good news with his 1.8 million followers on Facebook and Twitter.

“Sealed and Signed with #UBL. @BellLager @SwangzAvenue_official #Grateful,” he wrote.

The details are still sketchy, but the ‘money bags’ emojis that accompanied the message seem to say it all – the deal is so huge for his small shoulders he too seemed speechless when he signed above the dotted line at the Swangz Avenue offices.

What is the big deal? We will keep you posted.

By Our Reporter

Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has announced a partnership with the Infectious Disease Institute (IDI) under the Raising the Bar program which will support bars to re-open safely & rebuild customer confidence.

Raising the Bar is adapted from the Diageo $100 Million Raising the Bar Program that seeks to facilitate Diageo affiliates globally to support their local business partners and boost their capacity to reopen their businesses under the respective national guidelines.

In Uganda, this program is being facilitated under the Uganda Breweries flagship Brand of Bell Lager which will inject a $1 Million fund towards the logistical and physical requirements of the program.

This program has been developed in partnership with the Infectious Disease Institute, which among other things, will be the driver to provide awareness training for bars, recreational facilities and similar establishment personnel in the requisite knowledge, social distancing and enhanced hygiene measures that are important in the prevention of COVID-19 transmission in establishments that carry Uganda Breweries Products.

Speaking at the event to demonstrate preparedness of the Brewery to support the Bar Reopening, UBL Managing Director Alvin Mbugua said that as a business, they applaud and support government’s preparedness and response efforts to COVID-19 this far.

Mr. Mbugua added that the Raising the Bar initiative is the Brewery’s effort to work in tandem with the government to support efforts to raise the capacity of bars and enable them to adapt new practices to operate safely.

“COVID-19 has adversely impacted the different players within our value chain including farmers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and bartenders. Furthermore, the situation has been aggravated by the continued closure of the key retail outlets (bars) that stock and sell our products. An estimated 1.3 million people formerly employed by this sector are now redundant and estimated revenue loss of UGX 2.5 trillion across the value chain is inevitable at the current rate of business operations.” Alvin said.

“We hope that this initiative shows our leadership as Uganda Breweries to the relevant authorities and demonstrate to Government that we are committed to work together in the fight against this pandemic even as we seek for the re-opening of bars.” He added.

The Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon. Amelia Kyambadde speaking at this event also reiterated that Government is cognizant of the adverse impact that Bar closing has had on the livelihoods of Ugandans and the impact that it has had on government through missed taxes adding that her ministry was also aware that there might be an increase of intake on illicit alcohol arising from the closure of bars.

“Our number one priority has been the health and safety of Ugandans, and so far, the government is doing a commendable job on that front giving us good optimism that the conversation on bar reopening should start happening featuring the relevant stakeholders,” she said.

In March 2020, due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, Government of Uganda announced the closure of bars among other businesses to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country. Even as some restrictions have been slowly lifted, the closure of bars and other recreational businesses remains in effect, a thing which has had adverse impact to economic activity resulting in loss of revenue and devastated livelihoods of many Ugandans.

MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy graduating class of 2020.

By Our Reporter

A Ugandan filmmaker has won a scholarship to study at the New York Film Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (NYFA) with another film editor securing a training opportunity with Jasco Broadcast Solutions, in what will be a major skills boost for the country’s entertainment field, particularly film.

The two Ugandans were among a fresh cohort of filmmakers that graduated from the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Academy Class of 2020.

Uganda’s Daisy Masembe won an 8-week scholarship from the prestigious New York Film Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (NYFA) while Isiko Abubaker will get an AVID media composer licence from Jasco Broadcast Solutions, a video and audio tech company.

The NYFA 8-week scholarship goes to the top performing graduate per region. For the scholarship, Daisy will be joined by Abisola Aboaba (Nigeria) and Maira Tauacale (Mozambique).

Jasco Broadcast awarded the AVID media composer licence to the most-promising film video editor per region. Besides Abubaker, the other two recipients are from Nigeria and Zambia.

Commenting on the graduation, Hassan Saleh, the Managing Director of MultiChoice Uganda, said; “We are elated by how well our Ugandan film makers did. We at MultiChoice are confident that the skills they have gained from this training will transform our local film making process. This is yet another testament that MultiChoice is committed to support local content.”

Uganda’s film industry has made gradual progress in the recent past albeit with some challenges such as financing, expertise, piracy, policies and infrastructure. In addition, local demand for Ugandan-made film remains subdued due to quality of the output since many directors still work with very low budgets.

Saleh added: “Taking into account the multiplier effect, opportunities such as training from New York Film Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (NYFA), and Jasco Broadcast, will go a long way in enhancing the expertise of Ugandan film makers.”

The MTF students’ academic course was extended from 12 months to 18 months due to the pandemic. This additional time translated to the students walking away with not one but two qualifications, making them even more sought-after as they re-enter their respective local film and TV sectors as highly qualified industry professionals.

Alongside their MTF qualification, the students also walk away with an equally illustrious qualification from the prestigious New York Film Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (NYFA).

The students completed an intensive 3-week online NYFA course on the production of micro-documentaries, PSAs and music videos and also worked with the United Nations on the global #PledgeToPause campaign, exposing the young creatives to global networks.

In the Pulse Nation Cypher challenge, participants will be required to download the MTN Pulse Cypher beat from the microsite under the Pulse tube, record a one-minute video of them rapping to the beat for one minute with the mention of MTN pulse Nation at least once, and then upload the video on the MTN Pulse microsite.
