Jose Chameleone

By Lee Osbourne

Musician Jose Chameleone has come out to show his disappointment with Trace Mziki, a regional music channel, after they appeared to endorse a campaign by Ugandan DJs to boycott the singer’s music.

Trace Mziki had posted:

trace

In a long statement on social media, Chameleone says that such a music platform should be working towards promoting unity among artistes instead of spreading such false propaganda against him.

Read the full statement below.

“SHAME on #TraceMziki

You are exploiting hearsay than living as example by Unifying Africa Musically!!!
Professionalism is than this-

I have existed 16 years not by Favour or anything close. It’s Fans and the almighty who have given me an audience that you must achieve. The person doing your PR right here is not adding value to the Trace Brand we music makers have hoped to redeem us from segregation and all sorts. We anticipated your arrival but if this is the way then I am going back to school to learn and come seek a job!!!!! You can’t go so far without the Key Players who have grown this industry from Nothing!!!

If we didn’t gather East Africa together Musically you would never find a ready market for your viewership.

We Must partner to add and build Value to redeem our African music coz it defines who we are.

I am built on pillars made by the people who believe in My music therapy.

#SteveOgutu #olivierlaouchezthis.
Such approach will paralyze your channel and East Africa Music entirely.

I love music East Africa with a passion from the time it had no shoes and you could never depend on it. Now it’s in sneakers and you arrive

Regardless I will not bow to blackmail!!!!
Good music has no limits. My impact is felt by even the blind that don’t watch TV. And am on my highway to people’s hearts not eyes.”

It should be noted that the boycott campaign against Chameleone was started by a section of Ugandan DJs in support of their fellow DJ Bryan who accused the Wale Wale star of thumping him at Club Play.

However, Chameleone came out last week and dismissed the allegations as false indicating that he never went physical with DJ Bryan.

Swahili Nation

Sweden-based R&B and Hip hop music group, Swahili Nation will be among the opening acts at the Kool & The Gang live in Kampala Concert that will be at the Kololo Airstrip Grounds this Saturday, 12th November.

Powered by Tusker Malt Lager and organised by Talent Africa Group and Silk Events, the Kool & The Gang Concert is set to be the biggest disco themed production in Uganda’s history.

With Swahili Nation’s contagious groovy beats, Ugandans will not have a dull moment at the Kololo Airstrip grounds in what might be the most sought after music show of the year 2016.

Swahili Nation was founded back in 1990s by Kenyan brothers, Andrew Muturi, Robert Muturi and the late Tanzanian musician Cool James. It went on to sell numerous records both at home and abroad. However, Cool James later went solo in 1992, paving way for singer Wayne Beckford from London to join the band. Nigerian born Dr. Alban later signed them up with his Sweden-based Dr. Records in 1996 where the well-produced singles Nyama, Malaika, and Hakuna Matata (released in 1996) hit the music charts and received a nomination to Channel O Music Awards in South Africa in 2003.

Through the popularity of “Hakuna Matata” in East Africa, Swahili Nation has had a big influence on the use of the Swahili language in R&B and Hip hop which is now widely enjoyed by both Swahili and non-Swahili speaking communities.

“We are ecstatic at the opportunity of performing on the same stage as the legendary Kool and the Gang band that has inspired a number of us to create lovable and fun music,” exclaimed Andrew Muturi, Swahili Nation band member.

Speaking about the concert, Talent Africa CEO, Aly Alibhai said; “The concert has gained much more momentum and we are also excited to see that people have responded positively to the upcoming concert of the year.”

Swahili Nation will be joined by Saxophonist Isaiah Katumwa and Guitar Maestro and Vocalist Myko Ouma.

Remarking on the popular Swahili Nation band, Uganda Breweries Limited Head of Promotions, Roy Tumwizere said; “Swahili Nation always brings energy and excitement in the room and its performance will be such an amazing addition to this concert as we enjoy cold crisp Tusker Malt Lagers.”

“Bringing first time musical experiences to Uganda is a reward we aim to keep extending to our customers for their loyalty, seeing them having a good time is more than enough.” He added.

Tusker Malt Lager is synonymous with some of the best afro musical acts in Uganda and through Kool & the Gang, consumers can expect a slightly different dimension but all the same a funky musical experience.

Tickets are sold in the Bronze, Silver and Gold categories. Bronze tickets are available at 150k, Silver Tickets at 250k and Gold VVIP tables are 5 million shillings a table.

SK Mbuga

City tycoon SK Mbuga can finally hit the road in his new Ferrari car. This after he cleared with the local tax regulating body, URA.

SK Mbuga’s posh ride had been withheld by URA after he was implicated in a fraud scandal. Mbuga had been accused of fraudulently declaring the model of his Ferrari to evade taxes.

“Mr. Mbuga Sulaiman imported a Ferrari car model 2011 and declared it as a 2012 model to avoid paying 35% environmental levy. The declaration of the Ferrari car white in color was made on the basis of a 2012 model quoting a lower value of a UK made vehicle yet it is an Italian made vehicle. This would lead to under collection of government revenue.” They revealed.

He was consequently summoned by URA on Monday this week as they carried out further investigations into the matter. It now appears Mbuga has finally managed to clear issues concerning his new car as it has been spotted in his parking yard.
