Many of us ordinary Ugandans, just see football players on TV, and rubbing shoulders with a Premier League star like Paul Pogba, or Arsenal legend Ian Wright; or even just seeing them live, is nothing more than a dream. For 22-year-old Arif Sempala, a UK-born Ugandan model, the Manchester United midfielder is a client.

“Huge team… it was like being in a movie. They made the basketball ring and even the set that day… Cameras, smoke machines… everything was amazing and jaw-dropping.” Arif told the tale of how they shot the ad for Pogba’s Adidas boot collection.

Actually, Arif is also the first ever Ugandan model to walk for Puma. It was through this deal that he walked with Adriana Lima, and met J. Cole and Usain Bolt.

At such a young age, Sempala also co-owns a venture with his friend Jerelle Okoro in the UK, and their young brand, Vodo Green Tea is booming. Arif also hopes to play for Uganda’s basketball national team. Check out his stunts with Pogba in their commercial.

The search for the next Miss Uganda beauty queen is on. This was revealed during a press briefing held at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel on Thursday.

Addressing media, Brenda Nanyonjo, the Kezzi Entertainment director and Miss Uganda CEO, said that registration kicked off on Monday. “We are looking for young and confident girls. On top of the usual attributes like age and height, we will also be keen on personality and character.” She said.

Like the 2018 edition, contestants will be scouted from the different regions across the country. “We will hold regional searches, but because we don’t have ample time, we will be scouting for contestants in two regions on the same day.” Nanyonjo noted.

The lucky candidates will then be heading to boot-camp on July 6th, before the ultimate winner is crowned on July 27 during a ceremony that will be hosted at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

Meanwhile, socialite Zari Hassan will return as the Miss Uganda 2019 patron and will also still be one of the judges. The socialite was among the judges of 2018 Miss Uganda beauty pageant where Abenakyo Quiin was crowned. Abenakyo went on to win Miss World Africa crown.

DJ Mackus reveals secret to winning Evoke Night competition

DJ Mackus

By Our Reporter

Evoke Night is taking the party to the MTN warehouse next Friday, May 31. The youth inspired event returns in its second episode of season 3 with competitions in spoken word, rap and beatboxing. The competitions run alongside other performances of live band, live DJ, Film and many more art forms.

Last month at the Evoke Night Premiere, one victor arose from the Dance and DJ competitions. DJ Mackus, known to spin at the Cayenne Sunday pool chill and Almost famous Deejays events won the one million cash prize courtesy of Club Pilsener.

Here’s what he had to say about his journey towards winning the competition:

1. Why did you choose to compete in the Evoke Dance and DJ competitions?

Publicity is why I took part in the competitions. I wanted to use the platform Evoke and Club had presented to push my brand.

2. Take us through the preparations before you actually got to perform.

My preparation was based on the time code we were given by the judges. First round made up of 7 minutes then the second one was made up of 3 minutes. In my first 7 minutes I had to showcase my song selection and to make people dance followed by 3 minutes of a mush up i.e, instrumentals and a capella. I intended to showcase my skills of scratching and the deejaying technicality of fusing a beat from a different song with vocals of different song.

3. How did it feel like to grab that milli and what did you use it for?

I didn’t expect it because I came out to have fun not compete. But it was a great feeling. It feels good to do what you love and people respond to it. I used the money to develop my career by spending it on what was lacking.

4. You are returning for the semi- finals. What do you have planned?

I thought it was the end, but I was excited to hear the journey was moving on. I plan to deliver even better than before. My competitors will be in for a ride.

5. Any advice or tips you would give to nominees awaiting the Episode two competitions on how to win?

Don’t over think the contest, let it flow. Come out and have fun. Remember if you’re too careful you always end up making mistakes. So just be you.

By Our Reporter

Songstress Lydia Jazmine is a woman of a good heart. And this has continued to manifest in her different philanthropic acts.

We have learnt that the “You and Me” hitmaker recently facilitated orphans in Nansana to start their own business.

Our sources indicate that it all started during the Easter period when Jazmine visited the orphans and donated several basic necessities.

While the act of kindness was appreciated by the orphans, she felt she could do more.  She continued to use her privileged position in society to solicit more aid for them.

Good news is that a good samaritan heeded to her call and donated capital to help the family start their own business. They have ventured into selling second hand clothes and even already established their own boutique. This will hopefully give them a steady stream of income.

Kudos Lydia Jazmine!

Kenyan model Vera Sidika admits to losing virginity at 20, masturbation and being a pornstar

Vera Sidika

By Bash Mutumba

Arguably the biggest nightmare of a public figure is the unwarranted attention from paparazzi, and unsolicited interviews. But in this digital era, instagram slayers don’t mind being the talk of the town because, well, it is good for business; so when interviews delay to come their way, they make their own – after all they choose which questions to answer out of the many.

In a recent Instagram live feed, bootylicious Kenyan socialite Vera Sidika revealed info that left her stalkers in awe.

A naturally dark-complexioned lady, Vera is open about the fact that she bleaches her skin to look lighter – which is actually very okay – even though many who do it are not open enough to admit or reveal when asked. But the biggest revelations of the day were about her sexuality.

Asked about when she lost her virginity, the voluptuous-bodied ‘bossette’ divulged, “I first had sex when I was 20; actually I was a little late. I even started drinking at 23.”

Miss Sidika wasn’t about to ignore any personal questions, as she she responded to fans who asked if she masturbates with sex toys, and if she has ever thought of joining the porn industry(perhaps owing to the rumors that she gets the expensive cars and money from acting in porn films), “depends on the mood(on whether she uses sex toys or fingers), and I am a pornstar only when I’m with my man.”

Quite poetic, right? But if you recall pretty well, Vera accused her ex-boyfriend, singer Otile Brown of having a small D, right after their nasty break up; so all this shouldn’t come off as much of a shocker. Should it?
