3 Reasons why the blame on Martha Kay and other women whose nudes leak is misdirected

Martha Kay

By Bash Mutumba

In recent times, nothing excites Ugandans more than a leak of raunchy content; mostly the kind that involves a public figure. After the men recreationally finish the soap in their bathrooms, and the women envying and/or judging their fellow women’s bodies, the next step is usually to blame the victims of how irresponsible they are for letting their nudes leak, and often go on and on blaming them for taking these photos and/or videos in the first place. I’ll tell you why this blame is misdirected.

1. They don’t leak them themselves

In all honesty, of all the nudes and sextapes that leak, the ones that ask for them – who are also the only intended consumers – are usually the romantic partners, and it is very absurd that the blame is never laid on these particular individuals. The guy who leaked Zari’s video never paid for his sins, Desire Luzinda’s Nigerian lover was sure nothing would be done to him, Anita Fabiola’s offender too was never brought to book. Same applies to Judith Heard and now Martha Kay.

2. They are the victims

It is rather clear that cyber bullying isn’t something to joke about, as we have all witnessed friends and family succumb to depression after episodes of being bullied on social media. The best that can be done for such people is to show them they are loved, regardless of the betrayal they have faced at the hands of those they loved and trusted. Making fun, and threats of legal action and jail, aren’t the best words to tell to someone in a situation of being prone to mental health issues.

3. Ugandans should have rights to privacy

The whole essence of having mobile phones is privacy. They are not shared like landlines or pay phones, and the passwords therein, are ultimately to that effect. Ideally, every Ugandan should be able to take photos that empower them, without fearing that someone will encroach on their privacy.

I personally felt so sad when various people created fake pages in the name of Martha Kay just to get followers riding on her sorrow. It is needless to say, that we should spread love, not hate.

Tyler Himself impresses again with latest jam, “Enswa”

Tyler Himself

By Our Reporter

Tyler Himself is now a staple in the dancehall world. He is not stopping to release bangers. While we were still dancing to his collabo with Mun G, Like Glue, he dropped another one entitled, Interesting. The latest on the menu is Enswa, and it gets you dancing at the first listen. This makes him the quintessential dancehall artist.

In Enswa, Tyler delivers a siren song. One whose chorus you get easily to sing along. The chorus registers great cadences, which is uncommon with other dancehall artistes here.

In luganda, Enswa means, white ants, but he only used it as a reference to mean girls. I don’t get the connection, but that’s the thing with dancehall artistes, they create their own jargon. He is a ladies man, and he praises them generously on this one.

The track was produced by Artin Pro and the video was mastered Trend Films.

Diamond Platnumz and Tanasha Donna Oketch

By Bash Mutumba

It is no secret that Diamond Platnumz is a golden baller both on and off the pitch(the pitch being the music scene in this context). The Tanzanian Bongo Flavour superstar, who already has children from Uganda and Tanzania, is about to be made a father once again by Kenyan model and media personality Tanasha Donna Oketch. This will make Diamond the first individual in recent history to convincingly conquer East Africa – call him our era’s Abraham; father of all nations.

After getting dumped by Zari(even though he claims he dumped her first), Diamond introduced Tanasha to the world, as his new spouse, and promised he would never cheat again, further setting a date for their marriage(which was postponed to a date only heavens know).

Perhaps inadvertently, in an attempt to promote the new official video to Diamond’s hit song “Inama” featuring Fally Ipupa, the couple both posted a video of them dancing, which revealed the Kenyan-Italian beauty’s baby bump behind her fenty pack.

This invited mixed reactions, as many stressed it’s a baby bump, while others argued she had probably just had her fill after a heavy meal. Check out the video and tell us what you think:

My Culture My Identity

By Our Reporter

Uganda is home to numerous tribes, with so many different languages spoken, which makes it diversely rich in culture and traditions.  And now a new festival wants to celebrate this diversity while also encouraging young people to embrace their Ugandaness in a fun-filled setting.

The festival dubbed “My Culture My Identity” will be celebrating and showcasing Uganda cultures and traditions through fashion, entertainment and cuisine in a big fete slated for Saturday, June 22nd at the Uganda Museum.

The festival is organised by Culture World, a local cultural and fashion house, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism.

“We can not educate the young people about their cultures in a classroom setting so this is why we decided to infuse the festival with fashion and music so that it is more attractive to the young people,” Lavinia Tuhimbise, the CEO Culture World explained.

The event which kicks off mid-morning will feature several activities including a cultural exhibition where food, beverage and artifacts from different cultures will be showcased, and traditional games like mweso and kwepena which will keep revelers engaged throughout the day. There will also be a fashion showcase where renowned designers will showcase contemporary African styles. The festival will be crowned with a music performance from Afrigo Band.

Meanwhile, proceeds from the festival will go towards supporting the girl child through the Kaleke Kasome foundation, an NGO tackling sexual violence among young girls and helping keep victims in school.
