Latest news coming from organisers of the much-anticipated Blankets and Wine slated for this Sunday 15th December, is that there has been a venue change for the picnic themed music festival.

The Tusker Malt Lager sponsored event, which will be headlined by American star Jidenna, will now be held at the Indian Association Grounds opposite KCCA Stadium in Lugogo.

“Due to the current rains and several events that have been held at the Cricket Oval in the recent past, the grounds are not in the best state to host the picnic style event that Blankets & Wine is known for. We have secured a new venue to give our clients and fans the very best experience come Sunday,” said Philip Mukusaba, Events Manager, House of DJs.

It looks as though 2019’s anthem, “Parte after Parte” literally took it’s toll on the iconic venue rendering it unusable for Sunday’s Blankets & Wine picnic-style event.

Jidenna arrived in the country on Sunday ahead of the Blanket’s & Wine show and can’t wait to wow fans. He will share the stage with Toniks and Evon among other local acts.

Organisers have reassured the public that the event programme remains unchanged. Gates will open at midday and the event will go on till midnight. They also gave a security assurance to the public.

“For every Blankets & Wine event, security is paramount. We have engaged different security agencies and we can guarantee safety of persons and property at our new venue,” Mukusaba said.

Tickets to the event are UGX 100,000.

Jidenna performs at Blankets and Wine

By Our Reporter

Blankets and Wine returned for it’s 24th edition on Sunday headlined by American star, Jidenna in Lugogo.

The shift in venue from Lugogo Cricket Oval to the Indian Association Grounds did not sway fans away from the Tusker Malt-sponsored event. Instead, multitudes thronged the venue in high spirits, armed with their blankets, wine and of course clad in bold stylish outfits.

With an earlier downpour, they were welcomed to a soggy ground which would later turn muddy as revelers continued to pour into the venue. Meanwhile, for some, getting into the venue was not a fun experience. It turned chaotic at the entrance later in the evening and only the lucky ones managed to muscle their way in.

However, this did not deter revelers from enjoying themselves as different acts took to the stage.

Blankets and Wine

Before the headlining act performed, artists like Evon, Shawn Maine, Apio Moro, Koojo and Allan Toniks kept the crowds entertained for the better part of the jam-packed Sunday Afro-music extravaganza performing songs infused with both Afro-soul and contemporary urban music, not forgetting the DJs that kept revelers entertained as night crept in.

Jidenna would later jump onto the stage a little after 10pm and wasted no time getting fans into the groove as he pulled off an energetic performance with the highlight of the night being his earlier smash hits like Classic Man, Boomerang, Little Bit More and Bambi that set the place ablaze as many echoed the lyrics in lively sing-song.

The Chief Executive Officer of Bold Cashers Limited and developer of the Cash Chat mobile app, Mr. Asher Namanya Asanasio says that this is the start of an ambitious attempt to make Africa go cashless.
