Ugandan movie,”Kony: Order from Above” has been selected for screening at the African Film Festival (TAFF) which will take place in June this year in Dallas, Texas, USA.

The development was revealed by the movie director Steve T Ayeny who noted that this is a big achievement for the Ugandan film industry.

“It is a big achievement that a Ugandan film has been selected among many other films from different countries around the world for TAFF,” Ayeny disclosed. “As a director, I am very excited and feel that God has really done amazing things in our lives. 2020 we have bigger projects coming up.”

TAFF celebrates films and arts that either promote African culture; address issues affecting Africa and people of African descent; or explore African landmarks and historic leaders.

Meanwhile, last year in November, the film launched a North America tour and so far it has had 11 screenings in cities like Montreal and Ottawa, Canada among others.

“Right now we are proud that our work is out there being watched by people all over the world,” Ayeny added.

Based on a true story, “Kony: Order from Above” is a drama that  tells a story of two youth, Otti and Aguti who fall in love during the tumultuous northern Uganda Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency.

Although she admitted worrisomeness about the choice of venue, she insists it is for the greater good and hopes to inspire fellow female musicians with the daring move.

This is why I ended up choosing to hold my concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval.” Cindy told media during a press briefing held at Bight of Benin restaurant on Monday.

Hosted DJ Mary Jo,  the event aptly named Ladies Affair and now in its fourth edition is held to coincide with Women’s Day celebrations. It features a female-only cast of deejays taking over the turntables to entertain revelers.

The MC of the evening, Sista Natty Gyal, kept the audience sufficiently hyped as the show kicked off with DJ Amor, who took the crowd through an old school set, including hits like Kagoma by Bobi Wine and Unbwogable by GidiGidi MajiMaji.

Next was Sal DJ, who started her set off with South African house music, getting the revellers on their feet before DJ Ruby took to the decks and started her set off with some mid-2000s RnB, with the crowd singing along to hits like Usher’s Trading Places.

Salvado delivers a talk about self-startups and managing finances at YMCA.

By Our Reporter

Comedian Patrick “Salvado” Idringi has tipped University students on  entrepreneurship and managing personal finances. This after he was invited by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to speak at Nkumba University and YMCA during the NSSF Career Expo 2020.

Salvado was invited to give a talk about self-startups, how to manage finance by young people and common mistakes made by young in handling their finance.

YMCA students who did not hide their excitement upon seeing the seasoned comedian flooded the venue and before the lecture had started, they were begging for selfies with the comedian.

Salvado who is a Makerere graduate of Telecom Engineering started off the lecture with his story of how started his career as an Engineer in one of the biggest Telecom companies and ended up on stage as a stand-up comedian.

He resigned from his office job for comedy in 2010. He kick started his comedy career by auditioning for the Multichoice Stand-up comedy competitions where he emerged second, winning US$5000.

“I realized that I was doing serious things but getting unserious money but now I am doing unserious things but getting serious money,” Salvado said.

The father of two told the students that they should not be stuck to what they learnt in class because the society outside school is different and needs people with open minds, who can adjust to different the changing environment.

He added that most of the Uganda have failed to attempt to start any business because when they only see starting capital in terms of cash, mentioning that there is a lot of untapped human or social capital that is capable of starting and maintaining any business in the world.

Of course, comedy was his best way of delivering his lectures as he tried to emphasize the relevance of technology in searching for knowledge when he jokingly said that even you want to become the best night dancer in town , you can go to YouTube and get the most recent information.
