Dance hall artiste Karole Kasita narrates how she met Mudra D Viral, whose real name is Alfa Sebunya.

Right after she released her song titled ‘Gyal A Bubble’, Mudra was recommended to Kasita by someone she knew. Kasita mentioned that when they recorded the song Yaka, which was released in 2018, she didn’t expect it to become a hit, but she was surprised by the positive reception it received and this opened a door for so many other bangers like Mwoto, Baby Papa, Balance, among others.

He not only wrote her popular song ‘Yaka’, but he also came up with the phrase “maximum to the world”, which was first used in the hit song ‘Balance’ and later appeared in some of her other songs.

Earlier this year, the Dancehall Singer Mudra accused Karole Kasita of being ungrateful and refusing to clear her dues for the songs written. Mudra D Viral and Karole Kasita had a difficult and unstable relationship, but Mudra believes that the reason for their separation was due to Karole’s former manager, Joram Lukisa

In an interview with Galaxy TV, Mudra D Viral explained that when he wrote Karole Kasita’s hit song Yaka, he felt excited because he believed that all the hard work and sacrifices he had made were finally going to result in success something that did not come to life.

After this interview and the major exposure, this incident got Kasita to reconcile and pay up pending dues with Mudra which cleared all their grievances.

She also mentioned in an interview with a local television station that Mudra D Viral is a crucial factor in her music success because of his talent for writing songs. She openly admitted that there has not been a single project she has worked on without the involvement of the singer of the hit song “Muyayu.”

Fast rising duo, Ugaboys have revealed that producer, singer and songwriter, Daddy Andre once chased them out of his studio.

While appearing on Sanyuka TV, the talented duo revealed that about 2 years ago, they visited Andre’s studio for recording and he forcefully ejected them because other established singers were around.

Sulaiman Malinga and Muhammad Musungi, the Ugaboys members disclosed that they were found sitting in Andre’s studio when he barged them to leave and even threw their shoes outside. Spice Diana was one of the artists who was seated but they divulged she might not even remember that incident.

Later on, they went back to Daddy Andre’s studio and he told them they’re destined to fail in the music industry because of their singing style and they would never make a hit.

Despite these challenges, the Ugaboys insisted on their craft and have managed to hit the top charts with their catchy songs like Salary featuring Selecta Jeff which arguably contests for song of the year despite being released 4 months ago.

They’ve since followed it up with Kuchakala which is attracting good play allover music platforms. The duo are without a doubt, in run for greatness if they maintain their consistency.

Alien Skin will be hosting his second event of the year dubbed Nkwacho Festival at Wankulukuku stadium on 31st December.

Alien Skin has on numerous occasions said that he’ll quit music in December and focus on other things because he felt he has overachieved in a short time and wanted to leave the space for other upcoming artists.

Alien Skin caused mixed reactions yesterday when he arrived for his presser at the stadium in a helicopter. Many people highlighted that Alien Skin is managing the showbiz pretty well while others couldn’t notice anything special about it – regardless Alien Skin made news rounds; something you’d expect he needs ahead of his festival.

While addressing the media and the fans who attended, Alien Skin was reminded of his statement about quitting music in December and he reiterated that he would possibly quit if he fails to fill up Wankulukuku stadium.

Failing to fill up the venue would mean the people don’t support him anymore and he has no business continuing with the music whereas if he manages to attract a huge crowd, he would reconsider this decision.

Alien Skin further stated that he would venture into politics as an option because apparently that’s where all “faded artists” go.

We’ll see how this situation develops and keep you posted.

Azawi and Ray G found themselves in a clash on stage during the Comedy Store Ug event at University Inn in Mbarara over the weekend.

Opinions on what could’ve caused this have since surfaced online but the noise is leaning towards failure of the management to follow the event program to the dot.

A video that was posted by this publication shows Ray G following Azawi from backstage to the stage visibly unhappy with Azawi’s decision to perform first. Ray G is seen confronting Azawi backstage and later on stage on who should have the mic to perform first.

Despite his pleas, Azawi persisted and even asked the audience on if she should go ahead with her performance, of which she did.

Ray G who eventually left the stage for Azawi, used his second chance to express his disappointment with central artists for disrespecting other regional artists.

I’ve been struggling with this ongoing issue – whenever artists from Kampala come here, they seem to want to assert dominance over the local artists, said frustrated Ray G after his misunderstanding with Azawi.

This altercation has since stirred online reactions with some people criticising Azawi for being disrespectful and others divided between siding with her or blaming the event organiser for prioritising Kampala based artists over artists from other regions.

This is not the first time Ray G is expressing displeasure over how organizers and Kampala-based artists disrespect their counterparts in Mbarara whenever they hold events in the West.

In 2022, he lashed out over the same issue. His outburst followed an incident at a Purple Party Tour event at the same venue, University Inn in Mbarara.

During the event, Western Uganda’s most acclaimed rapper, Truth 256 was interrupted during his performance to usher in another performer. This prompted Ray G to go on stage and vent to the organizers of the show.

He said he’s fed up with the tendency of undermining artists from Western Uganda.

John Segawa: Salvado is an influencer not a comedian

In a recent interview with Sanyuka TV the legendary actor John Segawa made his thoughts clear on the difference between real comedians and plain jokers.

He stressed that comedy is a specialised art. A form of literature that needs to be carefully created.

He mentions that this form of literature (comedy) is specially created for learned people and not everyone is a target audience.

He stresses that the reason why the industry is failing today is because they create cheap skits that are sold to the general public thus ruining the entire purpose.

John said this in reference to the question asked by the interviewer of what he [John Segawa] thinks of Patrick Salvado’s comedy and he replied saying he doesn’t consider Salvado a comedian but rather simply an influencer.

John Segawa decried for media’s assistance and people to embrace theatre plays and comedy to revive the comedy industry that he feels has been diluted by TikTokers and comedians who are simply words-smiths and not creative enough.

John Segawa who sounded bitter towards stand-up comedians urged that drama should be an establishment which has discipline and appeals to all audiences.

However, when the two [Alien Skin and Eddy Kenzo] were booked to perform at Tondeka e’Kiwatule concert, many people anticipated that this is probably the organiser [Bebe Cool] who happens to have a historical beef with Bobi Wine getting the two music stars on his side.

In a shocking turn of events, Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan fell victim to a daring robbery at her Munyonyo residence. The incident unfolded last night when a group of thieves overpowered her armed guard, subjecting him to a brutal assault with an AK47 butt stock. The assailants, seemingly with a targeted agenda, made away with property worth millions as they ransacked Zari’s home while she was away.

In a video posted on her Instagram story, Zari highlighted that the audacious burglars, displayed an alarming knowledge of her belongings, interrogated the guard about specific items and even inquired about her family members and friends. Their insatiable greed extended to an attempt to steal Zari’s cars, but timely police intervention thwarted their plans, forcing them to flee the scene. The ordeal left the security personnel battered and bruised, highlighting the ruthlessness of the perpetrators.

Zari Hassan, currently en route to Kigali, Rwanda, for her Zari All White Party, expressed her determination to bring the culprits to justice. Vowing to leave no stone unturned, she affirmed her collaboration with the Uganda police in a relentless pursuit to apprehend those responsible.

In the aftermath of the stage standoff between Azawi and Ray G at University Inn, Mbarara, media critic Eddie Ssendi has emerged as a vocal figure taking sides in the controversy. The incident, largely attributed to disorganization by event organizers, ignited a flurry of reactions on social media.

During an interview with Vybe Life UG, Eddie Ssendi expressed his perspective on the clash, asserting that Ray G is still in the early stages of his career and should not perceive himself as a fully blossomed star. Ssendi was candid in his critique of Ray G’s musical prowess, likening him to an ungerminated seed and dubbing him a mere “fish in a pond.”

Ssendi didn’t confine his criticism to Ray G’s musical abilities; he also took aim at the artist’s fashion choices. According to Ssendi, stars do not dress like Ray G, implying that the artist has yet to embody the image of a true star in the entertainment industry.

The seasoned media critic continued to highlight a few names from the West, emphasizing figures like Akiki Romeo, Rasta Charz (his wife), Sister Charity, and Prossy Kankunda, stating that Kankunda’s “Akalulu” surpasses the impact of all Ray G’s songs in the region.

Eddie Ssendi’s outspoken commentary adds another layer to the ongoing debate surrounding the clash between Ray G and Azawi, bringing attention not only to the event’s disorganization but also sparking discussions about the artists’ standing in the music industry.

In a morning statement she posted on her socials, the Swangz Avenue sensational singer Azawi addressed an incident involving Western Uganda’s star singer Ray G, accusing him of interrupting her performance at University Inn in Mbarara.

Azawi emphasized her lack of control over event schedules, deeming Ray G’s actions unprofessional and demanding a public apology from the Mbarara singer who failed to control himself and threw verbal abuses to Azawi on stage.

Azawi shed light on what she perceived as a recurring pattern, claiming that Ray G often employs such tactics to undermine fellow artists, particularly those from Kampala. This accusation suggested a deliberate strategy to diminish the achievements and performances of artists outside Ray G’s local circle.

Asserting her commitment to her craft and the respect she holds for her audience, Azawi declared that she wouldn’t allow anyone to tarnish her reputation or disrupt her performances. Her determination to maintain professionalism and artistic integrity stood as a strong response to Ray G’s alleged disrespectful behavior.

It was the first edition of the Afri-Diamond Thanksgiving Ceremony yesterday December 28, 2023 and the aroma of creativity filled the air as artists, musicians, and performers gathered for a special dinner at Hotel Africana.

Prince Daudi Kintu Wasajja was the Guest of Honour and in his speech, he announced that the Kabaka of Buganda had gifted the group with a piece of land where a theatre museum will be constructed.

The Thanksgiving idea started with Ruth Wanyana who organised the directors and big figures in the Art Industry.

“After the demise of Kato Lubwama, I felt an excruciating pain and regret, I wished I had shown him my gratitude earlier,” she said in her heart warming video addressing the attendees.

Ruth further told the guests about the wholesome moments she has had with her mentors and her highlight was how Maama Mariam Ndagire used to share her clothes and makeup with her — something that has stuck in her memory until date.

How did the Thanksgiving idea come about? The idea started with Ruth Wanyana who after the passing of Kato Lubwama opened up a WhatsApp group and added a few people who felt the same way about his passing; to plan on how to show gratitude to their mentors in the Art industry.

Artists went ahead and shared stories of their inspirations, passions, and the transformative power of the Art industry.

Laughter and applause filled the room, creating a symphony of gratitude and creativity which were acompanied by performances from Irene Namatovu, Rebbecca Jjingo and Bobi Wine.

To commemorate an eventful evening, Prince Wasajja handed over awards and portraits to some of the big contributors of the Art industry including Ashiraf Ssemwogerere, Mariam Ndagire, Late Kato Lubwama’s Family, Abby Mukiibi and John Ssegawa.

Throughout the evening, the actors shared stories of their favorite roles, memorable performances, and the transformative power of the stage.

Laughter and applause filled the air as they toasted to their shared love.

It was a Thanksgiving dinner that celebrated the artistry that brings joy to our lives.

Bobi Wine has done nothing for the music industry – DJ Nimrod

In a recent segment of Galaxy FM’s end-of-year edition focusing on the music industry, DJ Nimrod stirred controversy by expressing his views on Bobi Wine’s contributions. Despite commending the Big 3 – Jose Chameleone, Bebe Cool, and Bobi Wine – for revolutionising Uganda’s music scene, Nimrod argued that Bobi Wine has done little for the industry.

Nimrod acknowledged the influence of Chameleone and Bebe Cool, asserting that they have played a more significant role by mentoring aspiring artists and maintaining active involvement in the music scene.

In contrast, he emphasised that Bobi Wine’s shift to politics, where he now leads a major political party, has diverted his focus from music.

According to Nimrod, the artist who has truly made strides in shaping the industry is Eddy Kenzo. Not only has Kenzo produced chart-topping hits, comparable to the Big 3, but he has also taken a proactive role in advocating for change.

Nimrod pointed out Kenzo’s efforts in demanding amendments to copyright laws and using the Musicians Federation to unite artists, showcasing a commitment to enhancing the music industry beyond individual success.

While acknowledging Bobi Wine’s role in the initial revolution, Nimrod contends that others, particularly Eddy Kenzo, are now driving positive change within the industry.

Lydia Jazmine, known for her musical talent, sparked controversy with explicit photos attached to a social media post discussing her 2023 accomplishments and challenges.

The revealing images ignited a heated debate about the choices women make in exposing their bodies to the public. Many followers expressed their discontent, questioning Jazmine’s decision to share such photos and challenging her role as a public figure.

Despite the criticism, Jazmine took the opportunity in the same post to invite her fans and music enthusiasts to support her upcoming concert on 1st March 2024 at Hotel Africana.

However, the controversy surrounding her explicit photos overshadowed the concert announcement, with numerous individuals calling her out for perceived indecency.

As a popular female artist in Uganda, Jazmine faced criticism for not upholding a role model image, leading to a divided response from her fanbase and the online community.

The debate on social media extended with quite known Men’s Activist Godfrey Kuteesa expressing his views on Twitter/X. Kuteesa criticized Jazmine, accusing her of engaging in “Erotic Capital,” a term suggesting a lack of substance beyond the physical looks.

Bebe Cool List 2023: Bebe Cool rewards artists on his list.

$

It’s that time of the year again, here we go with the Bebe Cool List in which top performers of the previous 12 months are recognized and appreciated by the Gagamel CEO. Here’s the full list:

  1. ALIEN SKIN (Party, Twayiseko Dda, Binyuma Bitya ft Clever J)
The cardinal duty of a legendary artist like Bebe Cool is to offer guidance, counseling, and knowledge to everyone. However, it depends on those who choose to positively relate and embrace it. Last year, I spoke about Alien Skin with good music but retaliating behavior. However, this young man took the advice, polished his image, evident in his current dress code and public address. Alien Skin is not your normal good artist by vocal capabilities but rather an impressive creator of his own style with an “I don’t care attitude.” This is important for young people to have confidence and believe in whatever they do. Alien has come back on top of this list with two major hit songs; “Party, Twayiseko Dda,” followed by several statement songs that might not have made it to clubs and airwaves but were vibrant on social media. Such songs include; “kisunda, Kubalumya Mitwe, Ready Fi War, Obwenzi, I am Me.” He reminds me of the old days of Bebe Cool and Jose Chameleon fresh from Nairobi, not forgetting Bobi Wine when we integrated beef and showbiz into the music. The audience had a lot of things to talk about, hence paying attention to our songs. Alien mastered the art of social media and beef, integrating the two into his music, thus sealing this year as the Artist of the Year. Well in, my friend, and good luck.
  2. VINKA (Bailando)
Vinka has the biggest song among female artists this year. She has successfully and strategically been positioned by her record company- Swangz- to have big songs with other artists. These include; Believe and Chekecha. Even if she doesn’t own these songs, she shares credit for expertly executing two of the best collaborations of 2023.
  3. DAX VYBZ (Believe)
I bring him third because I was surprised that such a good song came out from Dax, an individual I thought would not have a vocal range. I was truly surprised by his urban execution, despite the fact that he hails from Dangala Komwokya. I credit Dax for this masterpiece, only if he maintains this direction, he’ll surely make it as a surprise among his averagely talented brothers.
  4. EDDY KENZO (Balipila Boda)
If up to now you haven’t known who he is, now you should know that this is the typical Eddy Kenzo Style. “Balipila Boda” appears on the list as it surprises me and many how it penetrated the audience, a hit song is one that is widely embraced by the audience and it is.
  5. REMA NAMAKULA (Tonight)
Rema Namakula this time appears on the list. I have seen her emerge as a young talent. Her success doesn’t surprise me at all. I congratulate her for appearing on the Bebe Cool list 2023 with ‘Tonight,’ and I definitely wish her all the best in 2024.
  6. JOSHUA BARAKA (Nana)
“Oooonana baibie” is one of the biggest songs of 2023, even bigger than the artist himself. This young man with special talent amongst many is expected to excel but only if he works hard. His music directs to a trending afro-beat sound which the Ugandan audience wants to see Ugandan artists engage in. I wish him the very best and am sure he is on the right direction.
  7. UGA BOYZ FT SELECTOR JEFF (Salary)
Surely Uganda is an amazing country, as the president always says, “anyone can survive here.” So many artists came up with ideas, but this was the best idea among many. It makes sense depending on how you analyze life. “wabula-Bwenafuna ku salary njakunyulwa e’baala.”
  8. OMEGA 256 (This year)
Indeed this year we have a ‘regional’ artist breaking through on the Bebe Cool list against many odds. This shows that you don’t need to hail from Kampala to have a big song in the industry. I want to give flowers to this artist and pledge my support to her whenever she needs it. Congratulations OMEGA 256, and I wish you good luck.
  9. VYROOTA. (Risk, Ex twafuna Sente)
Congratulations, Vyroota, for emerging as the breakthrough artist on the Bebe Cool list. Indeed, this young man has talent, and it’s not the first time I have heard about his name. However, the challenge is upon you to prove because you have competitors in 2024. Embrace them and continue singing nice melodies. Best of luck.
  10. OMUTUME PLANET (Kyaayi we’njaye)
The year began at the peak with “Emboozi ya chairman.” Creativity from this young man from nowhere, I loved the idea, played on radios social media. The only problem with such songs is they are difficult to follow, but it doesn’t take away the fact that you appear on the Bebe Cool list despite the negative “content.” My young people enjoy the music but do not imitate contents; stay away from drugs.
  11. CRYSTO PANDA (Empele & Mukisenge)
Down to earth. A good young man. Panda is an extremely hardworking individual who deserves everything. This year on Bebe Cool list, I want to appreciate the consistence and improvement Panda has made. Empele is a big song and Mukisenge is big and growing through into the new year. Congratulations Crystal Panda. I can see a light at the end of your tunnel, just like a crystal. All the best my boy.
  12. KING SAHA (Money)
With one and a half songs this year, King Saha appears on the Bebe Cool list with Money and maybe “EBISSERA” if given time and thought. Talent with this artist is not questionable, and we still wish him the very best in using his great voice.
  13. GRAVITY OMUTUJJU (Okwepicha)
As earlier said, anyone can survive in Uganda, Okwepicha is a viral statement song with a hidden meaning, but it has made an impression onto the local ground. Wabuyu appears again.

GOSPEL

  1. GABIE NTAATE (Cheza) & TITUS KUTEESA (Ndimulokore)
These are good songs that only need the gospel fraternity to push. Gospel is important in this industry, and I call upon the gospel artists to work harder to push the gospel more to the circular world.
  2. BEBE COOL (QUESTION)
It’s difficult for me to include myself on this list, for I make the list. The likes of Jose Chameleon

COLLABORATIONS.

This year was covered by a lot of collaborations, more than singles, I don’t know whether it is lack of self-confidence or artists are too busy, but surely from time immemorial, I have said collabos tend to weaken individual merit. All said and done, good music is good music and I want to applaud the collaborating artists.

Note that collaborating within the same audience doesn’t give you an extra reach but I would prefer cross boarder collaborations which definitely introduce you to new audiences. But I still recognize the goodness of these collaborations that made it to the Bebe Cool list.

1. Carol Kasita – Chekecha ft Winnie nwangi, & Vinka
Tetunazina ft Gravity.

2. Fik Gaza- Banana ft Jose Chameleone.

3. Fik Famaica – Bwepaba ft Sheebah.

4. Hatim & Dockey – Did I die ft sheebah.

5. Ava Peace – Shabada ft Mudra Di Viral.

6. Feffe Busi – Pretty Pretty Remix ft King Saha.

7. Jowie Landa – Sugar dada ft JPC & EX twafuna sente ft Vyroota.

COMEDY

The Bebe Cool list would like to appreciate the comedy sector of entertainment as music and comedy work hand in hand and at this note, let me appreciate an individual who has put up an outstanding effort to give Ugandans an option. I give Alex his flowers and call upon all Ugandans to continue to embrace comedy as it is also an important source of income for the young generation.

In conclusion, I congratulate every artist who has made it to the Bebecool list and to those who did not make it doesn’t mean you did not perform well but rather our colleagues worked abit extra than us hence their extra hard work deserves recognition.

The Bebecool list would like to offer free studio time to a tune of 3 songs at GAGAMEL RECORDS and also offer 3, free Video Camera opportunities to shoot their videos to all the artists mentioned on the Bebecool list. This offer is subject to an artist having his/her own producer and booking studio time two weeks prior to the Programme. The video camera is subject to 150 dollars as facilitation for handler and security.

“HAPPY NEW YEAR”

Mr. Lee of B2C questions Bebe Cool’s music ability over his 2023 List

Mugisha Richard, also known as Mr. Lee of B2C Entertainment, recently caused a stir on social media as he openly criticised Bebe Cool’s annual Bebe Cool List of 2023.

Mr. Lee’s bold move involved questioning the rationale behind letting someone perceived as one of the weakest performers in the music industry from the previous 12 months curate a list ranking the year’s best talents.

Mr. Lee’s inquiry wasn’t merely a random challenge; it seemed rooted in a genuine disagreement with the Bebe Cool List.

One key aspect of Mr. Lee’s dissent appeared to be a belief that his musical group deserved recognition on the coveted Bebe Cool List.

With a relatively successful year marked by chart-topping hits like “Kitoke Kyagonja,” “Ndabula” featuring Carol Nantongo, and “Crazy Company” with Fik Fameica, Mr. Lee argued for his group’s inclusion, prompting a reevaluation of the criteria behind Bebe Cool’s selections.

In a parting shot, Mr. Lee questioned the authenticity of the ranking system, directing a query at Bebe Cool about how he honestly assessed his own contributions to the music scene that year.
