It was in 2008 when Eddy Kenzo broke onto the music scene with his song “Yanimba” featuring Mikie Wine. Ten years later, Kenzo has grown into one of Uganda’s top artistes. The local music star now wants to celebrate his 10-year music journey with fans in a mega concert that will take place on 4th January, 2019 at  the Kampala Serena Hotel.

“As I celebrate 10 years of my musical career, my path has been filled with success but it has come with its bumps. But together, we have survived the storm and for this I am forever indebted. Come and be part of this milestone as we continue to make history together,” said Eddy Kenzo.

Eddy Kenzo has become a staple in Uganda’s songbook with popular songs like Stamina, Sitya Loss, Jubilation, Mbilo Mbilo, Nice & Lovely, and Pull Up among others.

On his rise to stardom, Kenzo has broken both local and global records in most musical spheres including being the first East African to win the BET award and Nickelodeon Kids choice award.

Speaking on behalf of Airtel Uganda, Ms. Sumin Namaganda, the Public Relations Manager congratulated Eddy Kenzo on his success over the years. “We are proud to be part of Kenzo’s journey. Over the past four years, we have seen him become a global brand and reach heights only attained by great artists. We pledge to continue supporting Eddy Kenzo and promoting Ugandan talent,” she said.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Eddy Kenzo recently released a 20 track album “Roots” honoring his musical journey. The fete will also provide fans with new ways to engage with Eddy Kenzo online-sharing memories and driving deeper into his musical journey.

Kampala Cake Fair

By Our Reporter

The Kampala Cake Fair, an annual event that brings together cake and food enthusiasts is returning for its second edition which will be held on December 2nd at the Uganda Museum grounds in Kampala.

The event is an annual showcase of a variety of cakes, desserts, accompanying foods and style in a colorful, fun filled family day. This year, the event has attracted over 80 bakers building on the success of the previous edition. It will also feature an after party with performances by Almost Famous DJ’s and Vinka.

The Fair which is being held under the theme “Celebrating Life with Cake” was launched at the Naguru Skyz Hotel.

“Some of the activities that will be held at this year’s fair include a celebrity bake-off, kid’s bake-off, cake eating competition and a main cake competition. We have also selected a team of six reputable pastry chefs who will adjudicate at the awards,” said Asha Batenga, the event organizer.

The celebrities who have been selected for the bake-off include Anne Kansiime, Roger Mugisha, Renzioni Hill, Gaetano, Laura Kahunde and Anita Beryl.

“With the unprecedented levels of unemployment in the country, we are pleased to support an initiative such as this one that brings together young people to showcase their skills in the craft of pastry baking. Many do not know but Baileys is actually part cake and part liqueur so we will be rewarding bakers who will ingeniously incorporate it into their recipes as an ingredient,” said Roger Agamba, International Premium Spirits Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries.

The main cake competition will see bakers compete in four categories; traditional, creative, wedding and starter. Baileys, the platinum sponsor of the event has provided liqueur for the bakers to incorporate into their cakes.

The event is the brainchild of Cake Shop Uganda, a Facebook group with over 100,000 cake and dessert entrepreneurs and enthusiasts.

Mr. Eazi thrills fans at album listening party

Revelers having a good time at a recent party.

By Our Reporter

December is upon us and we are spoilt for choice on which parties to attend. While we thought we had seen it all, the latest info coming to our desks is that someone is planning a must attend pop-up club dubbed “You Are Not On The Guest List,” and it will happen at the Kampala Serena Hotel on December 20.

A pop-up club is basically a night-club set up just for a particular event and this time the Kampala Serena Hotel is going to be turned into a Las Vegas nightclub, just for one night.

Organisers of the event have promised to bring Vegas to Kampala and deliver an exciting feel of the bright lit boulevards in Las Vegas in addition to casino games, entertainment and the whole extravaganza that makes what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas.

We still don’t know who the organizer is, but with Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve confirmed as a sponsor and Fenon Events tasked to turn Serena’s Victoria Ballroom into a nightclub for one night only, it surely is not one to miss.

The event is strictly for reservations and tickets are already being sold online at quicket.co.ug. If you go with the Ugandan attitude of paying at the door instead of reserving your ticket early, we are sure the bouncers will tell you, “You’re not on the guest list.

By Our Reporter

Under the auspices of the Embassy of France in Uganda, the Club d’Affaires de Kampala, an umbrella body of French, Francophone and Ugandan businesses, organised the 2018 edition of the Beaujolais Nouveau wine party last Saturday at the Kabira Country Club, Kampala.

The more than 800 guests comprising of company CEOs and staff, the Diplomatic Corps, expatriates, French and Francophone community, socialites and revelers who graced the evening event were treated to the Beaujolais’ new red wine, over 20 varieties of the French gastronomy, including cheese, bread and the traditional “charcuterie” (cold cuts), and, of course, music and dance à la française!

The Beaujolais Nouveau is a unique opportunity for the French community and its Ugandan partners and friends to look back at the achievements made over the year and celebrate the promising transactions between Uganda and France. It is a festive occasion for the French and francophone businesses to share with their employees, partners and all Ugandans who contributed to strengthen the solid ties between the two countries.

Beaujolais Nouveau party

In her remarks, H.E Stéphanie Rivoal, Ambassador of France to Uganda, noted that Beaujolais Nouveau celebration is very emblematic of the French way of life: getting people together to have good food, drink wine, talk to each other and enjoy music.

“The Beaujolais Nouveau celebrates not only French wine but also, and most importantly, our differences, our resemblances and our togetherness,” she observed, adding that it was so enriching to see so many people from different countries share food, drinks and dance together in the true spirit of Beaujolais nouveau.

Chameleone and Pallaso

By Our Reporter

They were reported to have been on bad terms following their tour in Kigali. Well that all seems to be a thing of the past, and if these images are anything to go by, the Mayanja brothers are back to good terms and even have some fresh music to commemorate the reunion.

We have learnt that the duo reunited to shoot the music video for the remix of Pallaso’s single, Hana that he released two months ago.

The video was shot by Grate Makes films, and in some of the behind the scenes footage, the brothers are seen in coordinated outfits. The song is yet to be released, but considering how talented these brothers are, this is surely about to be one great club banger.

“The song, Hana, is a dope song and Chameleone contacted me and said he loved the song. Considering how wide his fan base and reach is, I figured he was the best person to have on this remix. Plus this is the first project I have worked on with him in a long time. Also considering a lot of our people have passed on, we realized all we have is each other and it is only better that we work together and be there for one another.” says the Amasso hitmaker.

Slated for Sunday, December 16 at Lugogo Cricket Oval, the event will have Berry making his second visit into the country. The music entertainer who adopted the name “Kabaka Berry” during his previous short visit to Uganda with rapper Kanye West at Chobe Lodge last month is excited to come back and took to Twitter to officially announce his return on Tuesday.

The question on all his Ugandan fans’ lips at the time was how come he hadn’t held a show or a small party at a night club for fans in Uganda. Well, it is now clear to all partygoers that he enjoyed Uganda enough to organise a second appearance in the country within a period of two months. Revelers will now get a chance to experience his music live at Blankets and Wine.

On top of having his own recorded music, Maleek Berry has teamed up and produced songs with prominent artistes such as Wizkid, Davido, Wale, Fuse ODG, Runtown and Iyanya. Tracks like Kontrol and Been Calling, off his Last Daze of Summer album, have proved to be his biggest hits among his Ugandan fans. The artiste will be performing alongside Uganda’s local talents Irene Ntale, Tamba, and Farouq Farouq among others.

“Tusker Malt is committed to promoting Afro music and building connections through our involvement in events that connect Africans with each other Africans across the continent. We are excited about the fact that Maleek Berry is going to give Ugandan fans a taste of the best of West African music,” said Cathy Twesigye, UBL Brand Manager, Premium Beers.

Don Nasser

The government of United Arab Emirates (UAE) has asked the Ugandan government to hand over arrested ‘conman’ Don Nasser Isaac. This was revealed by Maggie Nnalongo, who is an alleged accomplice in the case.

While speaking to journalists in Entebbe during Nasser’s court case, Maggie says the victim, Jessica, already has sanctions against Nasser from her government in UAE.

“She offered a a lot of things to Uganda but unfortunately because of what happened she stopped,” Maggie said. “She asked the government to help her [hand over or charge Nasser] or the Government of UAE will be involved because Nasser is a resident there.”

Maggie further says that she flew in with evidence to pin Nasser on the alleged crimes. “So, I met this lady, she’s called Jessica, today and told her. I came with all the evidence.”

She says she already recorded a statement at CPS. “Because of my children I couldn’t be in Prison for something I never took part in or allow someone steal from investors who come to Uganda,” she added.

Don Nasser was arrested last week after a series of crimes were reported against him.

Awilo Longomba

Legendary Congolese musician Awilo Longomba is coming to Uganda, we have learnt. News coming in from Cents Events (famed for organizing the Uganda Entertainment Awards) has it that they are bringing the energetic dancer to Kampala soon.

When we called the C.E.O Vincent Nsubuga to confirm the rumor, he said that the company will indeed, be hosting the Congolese musical artiste.

“We want to give Ugandans a retro-fused-with-contemporary experience. Growing up, many of us danced to Awilo Longomba’s music. And it will be like reminiscing the memories. He however also has a number of new hit songs,” relayed Nsubuga.

The rumor started when Vincent Nsubuga was seen frequenting the booking offices at the Kampala Serena Hotel, presumably to seal a date in 2019. Asked the exact date when the event will take place, Vincent was hesitant on disclosing many details, citing that it wouldn’t be a good idea for sponsors and stake holders at the moment.

“I can’t say the exact date. But it will be in April 2019,” relayed Vincent.

Awilo Longomba is a Congolese musician who was a drummer in Viva la Musica, Stukas, Nouvelle Generation and Loketo. In 1995, he finally quit drumming for singing and released his first album Moto Pamba with help from Shimita, Ballou Canta, Dindo Yogo, Dally Kimoko, Sam Mangwana, Syran Mbenza and Rigo Star.
